A.Registration Checklist

  • Check the test fees and read the reschedule and cancellation policies before registering for the test.
  • Read and understand the ID requirements. You are responsible for bringing valid and acceptable ID when you report to a test center.
  • Create a My GRE Account to register online. Be sure that the spelling of the name you use when registering exactly matches the name printed on your identification documents (excluding accents, apostrophes and spaces) that you will present at the test center. For example, a last name of Fernandez de Córdova would be entered as FernandezdeCordova. See The Name You Use When Registering.
  • Decide when you would like to take the test. Be sure to allow sufficient time for score reporting when scheduling your test so you can meet the admissions deadlines for the schools to which you are applying.
  • Get the most up-to-date test center information. Not all test centers are open on all dates.
  • Determine which graduate institutions or fellowship sponsors you want to receive your scores. As part of your test fee, you may request that scores be sent to as many as four graduate institutions or fellowship sponsors. You will choose score recipients on test day.
  • Learn about the FREE GRE® Search Service. You will have the option to sign up for the Search Service when you register for the GRE revised General Test.
  • When you are ready to register for the GRE revised General Test, sign in to your My GRE Account and select from the registration options presented.

B.Register for the Computer-deliveredGRE® revised General Test

TheGRE® revised General Test is offered year-round as a computer-delivered test in most locations around the world. Appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Register early to get your preferred test date and test location.

Register to Test in the United States, Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico or Canada

There are three ways you can register for the computer-delivered GRE revised General Test in these locations.

Online Registration

  • You need to create or have a My GRE Account to register online. Note: Thename you use when you create your My GRE Account will also be the name used when you register for a GRE® test. Therefore, it must exactly match (excluding accents, apostrophes and spaces) the name on the identification (ID) documents that you will present on the day of your GRE test. If it does not, you may be prohibited from taking the test or your test scores may be canceled after you take the test. For example, a last name of Fernandez de Córdova would be entered as FernandezdeCordova.
  • Use an American Express®, Discover®, JCB®, MasterCard® or VISA® credit/debit card or a voucher number. Note that ETS reserves the right to add or delete payment options at its own discretion and without notice.
  • Online registration is not available for test takers with disabilities or health-related needs. Please see Disability Accommodations.

Phone Registration

  • Use an American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard, or VISA credit/debit card or a voucher number. Note that ETS reserves the right to add or delete payment options at its own discretion and without notice.
  • Call the test center directly or Prometric® Services at 1-443-751-4820 or 1-800-473-2255.
  • A confirmation number, reporting time and test center address will be given to you when you call.

Mail Registration

  • Use an American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard, or VISA credit/debit card or a voucher number. Note that ETS reserves the right to add or delete payment options at its own discretion and without notice.
  • Download and complete the Authorization Voucher Request Form (PDF).
  • Mail the appropriate payment and voucher request form to the address printed on the form, allowing up to three weeks for processing and mail delivery.
  • The preferred method of payment is by certified check or money order.
  • When you receive your voucher, call the test center directly or Prometric Services at 1-443-751-4820 or 1-800-473-2255 to schedule an appointment.
  • An appointment to test must be made prior to the expiration date on the voucher.
  • If you lose your voucher, contact ETS. Only one replacement will be issued.

Register to Test Outside the United States

There are four ways you can register for the computer-delivered GRE revised General Test outside the United States.

Note: Individuals in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea or at additional testing locations outside of the Prometric test center network must register online through aMy GRE Account.

Online Registration

  • You need to create or have a My GRE Account to register online. Note: Thename you use when you create your My GRE Account will also be the name used when you register for a GRE test. Therefore, it must exactly match (excluding accents, apostrophes and spaces) the name on the identification (ID) documents that you will present on the day of your GRE test. If it does not, you may be prohibited from taking the test or your test scores may be canceled after you take the test.   • If you are testing in Mainland China, refer to the instructions in your NEEA account for payment methods.
  • For testing in Hong Kong, Taiwan or Korea additional accepted forms of payment include: E-Check (drawn against U.S. bank accounts only) and .

Phone Registration

  • Call the appropriate Regional Registration Center (RRC) at least two business days before your preferred test date.
  • A confirmation number, reporting time and the test center address will be given to you when you call.
  • Phone registration is not available to examinees testing in Nigeria.

Fax Registration

  • Use an American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard or VISA credit/debit card or a voucher number. Note that ETS reserves the right to add or delete payment options at its own discretion and without notice.
  • Fax the International Test Scheduling Form (PDF) to the appropriate RRC.
  • The form must be received at least seven days before your first-choice test date.
  • A confirmation number, reporting time and the test center address will be emailed, faxed or mailed to you.
  • You will be assigned a test date, time and location based on the information you provide on the form. If your requested date(s) cannot be accommodated, you will be scheduled for the next available test date. If your assigned test date does not meet your needs, call the appropriate RRC within 24 hours of receipt of your registration confirmation.
  • If you do not receive a confirmation of your appointment, call the appropriateRRC at least three business days before your earliest test date choice. If you missed your appointment and did not call the RRC, your test fee will not be refunded. If you provide an email address, you may receive a confirmation by email.
  • Fax registration is not available for test takers in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and Nigeria.

Mail Registration

  • Use an American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard or VISA credit/debit card or a voucher number. Note: American Express, Discover, JCB and MasterCard are NOT accepted for testing in Nigeria; only VISA is accepted. ETS reserves the right to add or delete payment options at its own discretion and without notice.
  • Mail the International Test Scheduling Form (PDF) to the appropriate RRC withappropriate payment. The form must be received at least three weeks before your earliest test date choice.
  • A confirmation number, reporting time and the test center address will be emailed, faxed or mailed to you.
  • You will be assigned a test date, time and location based on the information you provide on the form. If your requested date(s) cannot be accommodated, you will be scheduled for the next available test date. If your assigned test date does not meet your needs, call the appropriate RRC within 24 hours of receipt of your registration confirmation.
  • If you do not receive a confirmation, call the appropriate RRC at least three business days before your earliest test date choice. If you miss your appointment and did not call the RRC, your test fee will not be refunded. If you provide an email address, you may receive a confirmation by email.
  • Mail registration is not available for test takers in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea.

C.Register for the Paper-deliveredGRE® revised General Test

Paper-deliveredGRE® revised General Test administrations are offered up to three times a year in areas of the world where computer-delivered testing is not available. You can register for a paper-delivered administration online or by mail.

Online Registration

  • You need to create or have a My GRE Account to register online. Note: Thename you use when you create your My GRE Account will also be the name used when you register for a GRE® test. Therefore, it must exactly match (excluding accents, apostrophes and spaces) the name on the identification (ID) documents that you will present on the day of your GRE test. Admission Ticket

After your registration has been processed, you will receive an email from ETS notifying you that your admission ticket is available in yourMy GRE Account. The admission ticket confirms your test choice, test date, test center and score recipients.

You will need to print your admission ticket and bring it to the test center on the day of the test. An admission ticket will NOT be sent to you by postal mail. To print your admission ticket, log in to yourMy GRE Accountand select "View or Print Admission Ticket." If you are unable to print your ticket, contactGRE Servicesat least 10 days before your test date and an admission ticket will be emailed to you.

Attached to your admission ticket is a correction stub. Use the correction stub to correct personal data, or to add, delete or change score recipients. Name changes cannot be submitted on the correction stub. Your correction stub must bereceivedat ETS by the Friday before your registered test date.
